A truly horrible place. The individual stores are all nice inside but the so called mall is a joke. Environmentally unfriendly to say the list. Acres of car parking space, most of it unused. Stores spread out over a huge area - browsing from store to store virtually impossible. Dangerous for pedestrians and cars alike. Totally unsuitable for people without cars. It's a car mall, pure and simple. A totally backward step in this day and age. I would not take a visitor from a third world country to see this soulless wasteland. In fact Asian malls put Canadian one to shame but Centre On Barton has to be the worst - at least I hope so. In conclusion - appalling
Worst urban design concept I've ever had the misfortune to experience. Designed with an overwhelming lack of connecting sidewalks, and a traffic-control scheme designed for far less traffic than what is experiences, this mall is a safety hazard to everyone - pedestrians and drivers alike. Seniors and parents with kids have no safe or convenient way to travel between stores, or access the furthest retail blocks from public transit (additionally, they greatly shortened the light duration accross Barton street at the entrance to Target, for who knows what reason, making it impossible to seniors with walkers to cross comfortably to public transit). Mall employees are forced to endure the hazards every day - weather its getting into work at Staples, or trying to get to the food pavillian for lunch.
-Sales suffer greatly during rain or colder months
-The rear of the mall is used as a leash-free park for dogs, and attack training
-Mysterious traffic during the night at the rear of the mall
-People have been permitted to race their R.C. cars and pocket bikes during weekend hours.
-Security is never anywhere to be seen - though you always see the empty security car.
you used the wrong whether for future reference. You meant whether and put weather
I haven't seen most of the Centre, because it's too difficult to get from store to store. Not worth the effort. What I have seen isn't worth the effort to get to anyhow. Whoever planned it must be sitting back laughing at the people trying to get from one store to the other dodging traffic, walking around parked cars, trying to keep warm, cool, or dry depending on the season and the weather. Just a complete mess. Then to add insult, you have to endure looking at the back of the ugly buildings right out on the street. Just totally disgusting.
